Labor Day

Labor Day is a U.S. federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September each year. It honors the contributions and achievements of American workers and the labor movement.
The holiday grew out of the labor movement of the late 19th century, when workers pushed for better wages, safer working conditions, and shorter workdays. The first Labor Day celebration was held in New York City in 1882, and it became a federal holiday in 1894.
Today, Labor Day is often seen as the unofficial end of summer. Many people celebrate with parades, barbecues, family gatherings, and sporting events, while schools and many businesses close for the day.
